Agricultural Festivals: Old and New
FRIDAY JANUARY 8, 2016, 9-5PM
SOLD OUT Please call 916-7176007 for further information
In times past culture was enhanced throughout the year with festivals that united the natural world, the spiritual world and social rites of passage. Ancient nature religions arising from agricultural practices eventually transformed into festivals celebrating socially rich living metaphors of birth, death, marriage and coming of age. When people stopped working in nature, the living metaphors devolved into abstract social events and organized religious beliefs.
It is possible today to relink social and spiritual practices with experiences in nature through the creation of new festivals. Dennis will present a blueprint for a year of festival life that unites rhythmic seasonal tasks found in planting calendars with historical spiritual practices and seasonal rituals. These historical rhythms will then be placed onto the background of the esoteric significance of the forces of the stars and planets that are the fundamental key to understanding how to create new contemporary festival life for those who work the land.
- Historical solstice, equinox festivals and pagan calendar festivals
- Yearly best practices for planting calendars
- Yearly best practices for BD preparations
- Yearly best practices for alchemical work
